Floodproof Your House This tip comes on the heels of a disaster that befell a friend on July 4th; prevention could hardly be easier. Talk about $$ saved and heartaches prevented: the rubber hoses that are attached to washers over time can develop "hairline fractures" which will eventually burst. Water will flow and flood an entire house until the homeowner awakens or returns home to discover the disaster. Unlike the faucets in our home which only produce water flow when turned on, these washer hoses need no human to implement the flow of water. The solution: simply go to your hardware or "big box" store and buy METAL hoses which wouldn't be vulnerable to these ruptures. My friend in Florida simply went to bed and woke up to find almost all of her home flooded. Cost of the metal "hoses" under $25. Cost of this cleanup: somewhere around $25,000.
